How to set yourself up for Duke3d network games
A few of us dusted off Duke 3d the other evening for a bit of a network frag session, so here’s the low down on how to be ready for next time:
Note for Linux people: there is a Linux port, but it’s a bit of a pain to get running. Ashi and I both found it easier just to run the Windows version via Wine.
1. Download the engine from here: http://www.jonof.id.au/dl/buildport/jfduke3d-20051009-setup.exe
2. Install it
3. You need the Duke3d GRP file, which is available on the original CD (or ask Fuzz). You should put the GRP file in C:/Program Files/JFDuke3D/DUKE3D.GRP
4. Start the game!
5. (Optional) Download the hi-resolution textures for extra pretty Duke3D. http://www.planetduke.com/hrp/ warning 190MB download.
6. When joining a network game there has to be a host. That person will need to do some port forwarding etc and will also need to know the exact number of players in a given match.
7. If you are not the host you can join a match with the command: “duke3d.exe /net /n0 address.of.server”
Did I miss anything?

That's the lot
Nice guide ltmon. Thanks for posting that.
As ltmon said, if you need the group file just give me a yell and I’ll let you know the link.
Descent was mentioned as well as another game to try. I think we should keep exploring options like that for different games. We could even try dosbox for some games if there aren’t ports (it’s not the best on graphics though).
One game I’d love to have a game of is Carmageddon (1 or 2). I remember something that emulated IPX networking – think it was called Kahn, or Kalidarn or something and a few of us played netwars through it a few years back.
Kali
Looks like it was called Kali
Maps
So armed with this knowledge I can find all my old Maps and play them too……
Thanks ltmon looks like i’ve lost me weekend/life to go old Duke3D

Hey Nomad. a fellow Duker
Hey Nomad.
a fellow Duker eh….
Ever played Shadow Warrior?
The Bunny Rabits, How could you not forget the Bunnies
Something about the Bunny Rabits jumping around then exploding on impact… LOL
Shadow Warrior was cool, Perfect Single Player Campaign….
Also around that time SiN was released but I remember completing SiN very quickly
and going back to Shadow Warrior all over again as it had a way better Levels & Humor….
My other favorite is Blood especially when the air raid siren sounded and they came
running from every where towards you, memorably stuff….
Blood
two words
FLARE GUN
but SW was a VERY close second
Blood Maps
Found a CD with over 50 Blood Maps now time to get back into Blood……
n0mad runs away with thoughts of running around with pitch fork in hand…..
Transfusion
id be interested if it can work online!
otherwise I’m still waiting for Ashi and his crew to finish Transfusion!
It should run....
I’ve had no problems with it (though some people have), but we’re continuing to work on it (even though real life is taking hold of me).
pffft real life!
Now you can be like Fuzz and i have juggle 2 at once?
No Ozza, you don’t count…… you don’t do any work.
i bet when you get back to work from your holiday you’ll have MORE flex then what you started with!
God i cant wait for Ozza to get back to work, i love a good argument with him!
Back to the subject… anytime we can play blood or transfusion i reckon we should give it a go.
Screw the Maps
Blood online, now theres an idea, lets just do it
All online with Pitch Forks and on fire
you want an argument...
yo momma!
It’s good to be back =)
Amiga...
We’ve got every single amiga game that was released… about 4 gigs worth or so eh Fuzz?
Good times =)
